(Redwood City, CA) The Signatures In-Lieu of Filing Fee period will conclude on November 6, 2019 at 5 p.m. for the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election.

During this period, candidates may submit a petition containing signatures of registered voters within their jurisdiction to reduce or cover their filing fee. Only signatures found to be valid by the Registration & Elections Division will reduce the filing fee. The number of signatures required to cover the filing fee varies by office.

“Filing fees should not be a barrier for candidates running for office. We are at the halfway point for the Signatures In-Lieu of Filing Fee period. I encourage all candidates to gather and file their signatures soon so they can reduce their filing fees and get a head start on their nomination requirements,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer and Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder.

Signatures gathered on the petition can also be credited towards the number of signatures required by the candidate’s Nomination Papers during the candidate filing period. 

Interested individuals must pick up their Signatures In-Lieu of Filing Fee Petitions at the Registration & Elections Division Office at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo, CA 94402.
