(Redwood City, CA) The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division offers seminars on candidate filing for potential candidates interested in running for office in the upcoming March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Candidates will also learn about purchasing and using voter and election data for campaigning and voter education.

“We are offering one online seminar to accommodate candidates and their staff who may find it difficult to come to our office or prefer to meet virtually,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder. “The same information will be presented during a separate in-person meeting at our San Mateo office. The in-person meeting is expected to be popular with those candidates running for office for the first time, who may not have been to our office before, have more questions, or wish to meet our staff.”

The following are the dates and times for these two seminars:

Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 10 a.m. (Virtual)
or
Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. (In-person)

An RSVP is required to obtain access to the online meeting. Go to smcacre.org/elections/rsvp-candidate-filing-seminars or send an email to CandidateServices@smcacre.org. Attendees will need to provide their name, the office they will be running for, which seminar date they plan to attend, and the number of persons attending. Once you have signed up online, a meeting invitation with a link to the online seminar will be sent to you by email.

“I highly recommend this seminar to everyone interested in serving their community. Even if you have run for office before, these briefings will ensure your understanding of current laws, forms, reporting rules, and campaign management tips,” said Church.

The Candidate Seminar will cover such areas as:

  • Important filing deadlines
  • Candidate filing documents
  • Candidate statement
  • Campaign finance reports
  • Voter data reports

All seminars are open to the public.

Early Voting Period Begins February 5 to March 4, 2024
San Mateo County’s registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail in February 2024. Three Vote Centers for the March election will be open for in-person voting from February 5, 2024 through Election Day.
