(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer officially certified today the election results for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election.

San Mateo County’s Statement of the Vote was sent to the Secretary of State who will certify the Statewide Election Results for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary on April 12, 2024.

“This has truly been a historic election for the race to fill the 16th Congressional District seat vacated by the retirement of Congresswoman Anna Eshoo”, stated Church. The second place spot in the race for the 16th Congressional District between Assemblymember Evan Low and Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian ended in a districtwide tie resulting in a run-off against the first place candidate, Former Mayor Sam Liccardo. The three candidates will face off in the November 5, 2024 Presidential General Election.

Both campaigns may request a recount under California law. A recount must be requested by the campaigns or any voter within 5 calendar days (April 9) after the certification of the Election results.

“San Mateo County had a 40% voter turnout with 174,122 voters casting ballots out of 435,482 registered voters, 5% higher than the statewide voter turnout”, added Church.

The San Mateo County Official Election Results, published in the Statement of the Vote, are posted on the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division website, https://smcacre.gov/march-5-2024.
