Redwood City, CA –The random alpha drawing to assign letter names to the local measures that will appear on the ballot for the November 8 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election will be held Thursday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at the Elections Office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo.

“The random alpha drawing is an important and impartial step in the process of creating the official ballot,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer. Election officials and interested members of the public and/or the media will draw letters out of a hat (or basket) to determine the letter to be assigned to identify each measure. Measures will be listed on the ballot in alphabetical order according to the letters assigned in this drawing.

Elections offices all over California will hold similar drawings at the same time. The Secretary of State will also conduct a random alphabet drawing to determine the order of candidates’ names appearing on the ballot for all elections held on November 8 in the state of California.

Information regarding local measures is available on the Elections website, at https://www.shapethefuture.org/elections/2011/nov2011/default.asp.

For more information about the drawing, please contact Filing Officer Megan Asmus at 650.312.5293 or masmus@smcare.org.
