(Redwood City, CA) San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, Mark Church, announced the opening of the Candidate Filing period for the November 5, 2013 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election.

“The vitality of the County depends upon the willingness of responsible leaders who step forward to offer themselves in service to the public,” said Church.  The 43 jurisdictions with contests to fill governing board positions on the November 5, 2013 ballot include 12 cities, 14 school districts, and 17 special districts. 

For candidates seeking elected office, the filing period will open at 8:00 a.m. on July 15 and will close at 5:00 p.m. on August 9.  For offices without an eligible incumbent seeking re-election, the candidate filing period will be extended another five (5) calendar days and will close at 5:00 p.m. on August 14. 

“I encourage candidates who are interested in pursuing school or special district offices to call the Candidate Filing Officer, Meaghan Hassel Shearer, at 650.312.5293 to make an appointment to review the steps in the process, the forms and the requirements for a successful filing.” Mark Church stated.  “Individuals running for municipal offices should contact their town or city clerk to make an appointment.”
