(Redwood City, CA) – Mark Church, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced the opening of the Candidate Filing period for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election.

For candidates seeking elected office, the filing period is now open, and it will close at 5 p.m. on December 8. For offices without an eligible incumbent seeking re-election, the candidate filing period is open for an additional five (5) calendar days and closes at 5 p.m. on December 13.

The offices that will be up for election on the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election ballot include:

Federal Office: Partisan Nominees
U.S. President: 4-year term

Federal and State Offices: Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act
Runoff election between the top two candidates in November.
U.S. Senator: 6-year term
U.S. Senator: Unexpired/Partial term
U.S. Representatives in Congress, Districts 15 and 16: 2- year terms
State Senate, Districts 11 and 13: 4-year terms
State Assembly, Districts 19, 21 and 23: 2-year terms

County Offices: Nonpartisan
A candidate is selected if he or she wins more than 50% of the vote.  If no candidate gets a majority of the votes cast, the top two candidates will be on the November ballot.
Board of Supervisors 1st, 4th and 5th Districts: 4-year terms
Superior Court Judge: 10 seats available; 6- year terms

County Central Committees: Partisan
Democratic Party
Green Party
Peace & Freedom Party
Republican Party

Early Voting Period Begins February 5 to March 4, 2024
San Mateo County’s registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail in February 2024. Three Vote Centers for the March election will be open for in-person voting from February 5, 2024 through Election Day. Additional Vote Centers will open February 24 and March 2.
