The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking full-time seasonal extra-help Election Materials Proofreaders to assist in the upcoming November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election. This is an excellent nonpartisan opportunity to be involved in the election process!

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the position of Proofreader. Proofreaders will be hired into one of four areas:

Election Vote Center Representative (Extra-Help, seasonal)

THE POSITION
PEOPLE FIRST – Conduct fair, accurate, secure, and transparent elections to increase public participation and confidence 

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Vote Center Representatives (Office Assistant I) to assist in the upcoming November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election. Vote Centers offer in-person voting, voter registration and additional services to the public up to a month before the election. This position requires the ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment, learn computer applications/software quickly and accurately and serve members of the public.

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Vote Center Representative to be hired for the following duties:

  1. Use an iPad tablet to verify voter eligibility. 
  2. Provide information about the current election.
  3. Guide voters on use of electronic ballot marking devices.
  4. Operate office equipment including Windows Laptops, printers and iPad tablets.
  5. Provide in-person voter assistance to register to vote and cast a ballot.
  6. Issue ballots using Windows laptops.
  7. Maintain accurate files and records.
  8. Secure Election materials and supplies to maintain the integrity of the election.

Several positions require fluency in Burmese, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Tagalog/Filipino. Please indicate in your application if you are fluent in any of these languages.

Vote Centers will be open for four, eleven and thirty days. Those hired can expect to work approximately 7 – 15 days including training and onboarding.

Election Vote Center Trainer (Extra-Help, Seasonal)

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Office Specialists to work as Vote Center Trainers (Office Specialist) to assist in the upcoming November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election. The Elections Division is a fast-paced environment; this is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process. 

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Vote Center Trainer to be hired for the following duties:

  1. Train Vote Center Representatives, Students and Volunteers on San Mateo County Elections Procedures, how to use Vote Center equipment, Vote Center set-up and voter assistance. 
  2. Facilitate hands-on training scenarios for Vote Center staff.
  3. Identify uniquely skilled staff for special assignments.
  4. Set up, sanitize, restore and restock the classroom between classes.
  5. Communicate any notes or questions from the Vote Center Representatives regarding policy, equipment or supplies to the Training Supervisor.
  6. Serve as a Vote Center Lead at a four-day Vote Center.

Vote Center Training is expected to begin in mid-September. Those hired can expect to work for approximately seven weeks including on-site job training, teaching classes and working at a 4-day Vote Center as a Vote Center Lead.

Election Warehouse and Field Technician – Office Assistant (Extra-Help, Seasonal)

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker Warehouse Technicians/Field Technicians to assist in the upcoming November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election.  

The Elections Division is a fast-paced environment; this is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process. 

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Office Assistant to be hired into one of the following areas: 

Warehouse Technician 

  • Testing functions of electronic voting equipment 
  • Staging heavy equipment containers for delivery 
  • Inventorying and moving voting equipment and Vote Center supplies 
  • Assisting in delivery and pickup of voting equipment at Vote Centers 
  • Assisting in delivery of spare equipment and supplies to Vote Centers 
  • Driving personal vehicles regularly to each Vote Center on an assigned route to make sure that all equipment is properly functioning 

Field Technician 

  • Testing functions of electronic voting equipment 
  • Assisting in delivery, connection and testing of voting equipment at Vote Centers 
  • Troubleshooting voting equipment at Vote Centers 
  • Assisting in delivery of spare equipment and supplies to Vote Centers 
  • Driving personal vehicles regularly to each Vote Center on an assigned route to make sure that all equipment is properly functioning 

Use of personal vehicles is mandatory for Warehouse Technicians and Field Technicians. Vote Center routes will be assigned based on geography and location. Warehouse Technicians and Field Technicians may report directly to Vote Center(s) during the voting period. All candidates should be comfortable driving for assignments as necessary. Drivers will be reimbursed for their mileage.

Election Worker – Office Assistant (Extra-Help, Seasonal)

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker Office Assistants to assist in the upcoming November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election. 

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Office Assistant to be hired into one of the following areas: 

Clerical Support/Vote by Mail 

  • Data entry  
  • Processing of Vote by Mail ballots  
  • Counting ballots 
  • Operating ballot processing equipment 

Clerical Support/Voter Registration

  • Data entry 
  • Updating voter registration records based on information from statewide voter registration database and other governmental agencies
  • Prepares, verifies, and processes provisional ballots including a review of challenged ballots 
  • Prepares, verifies, and processes petitions, including nominations, initiatives and recall petitions. Performs second-level petition verifications

Customer Service/Phone Bank

  • Assisting voters in finding election material and understanding their voting opportunities over the phone 

Outreach Services 

  • Demonstrating voting equipment 
  • Registering voters 
  • Presenting information about the upcoming election 

Voting Equipment 

  • Function testing voting equipment 
  • Assisting in delivery and pickup of voting equipment at Vote Centers 
  • Driving personal vehicles to and from Vote Centers to troubleshoot equipment (required) 

Supplies 

  • Inventorying and packing/unpacking Vote Center supplies 
  • Fulfilling inventory/supply lists for multiple Vote Centers 
  • Recording and updating inventory numbers regularly 
  • Operating pallet jacks and other devices to safely relocate supplies
  • Accepting shipments and packages to the warehouse
  • Delivering supplies to Vote Centers
  • Valid California driver license required 

Ballot Retrieval

  • Retrieving voted ballots from Ballot Drop Boxes throughout San Mateo County 
  • Delivering voted ballots to San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division 
  • Driving County vans throughout the day (and evenings, as needed) 
  • May also help with delivering supplies to Vote Centers 

Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin and/or Cantonese, Tagalog/Filipino, Korean, Burmese, Hindi, or Japanese preferred in Customer Service/Phone Bank and Outreach Services but not required.

Vote Center Specialist

  • Update and maintain documentation related to personnel recruitment, training, scheduling and vote center locations. Schedule and prepare for unit activities including:  
    • Representative interviews
    • Representative onboarding and training sessions
    • Site Visits
  • Coordinate Training for Vote Center Leads in partnership with trainers 
  • Support Vote Center operations through:
    • Receiving time sheets
    • Monitoring computer systems
    • Organizing post-election feedback and statistic collection
  • May assist with other unit activities as time permits

Vote Center Tech Support

  • Helping to test equipment that will be used at Vote Centers 
  • Visiting Vote Centers and testing connections
  • Troubleshooting equipment issues in the field
