Randomized Alphabet Drawing Scheduled for Contests on the November 4, 2014 Statewide General Election Ballot
Contact: Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder
Alternate: David Tom, Elections Division Manager
(Redwood City, CA) On Thursday, August 14 at 11 a.m., the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division and the Secretary of State’s Office will conduct randomized alphabet drawings. The randomized alphabet drawings determine the order of candidate’s names on the ballot and assign a letter to each measure that will appear on the ballot for the November 4, 2014 Statewide General Election.
“The randomized alphabet drawing is the method set forth in the Elections Code to impartially establish ballot order. I invite the public to observe the drawing at our office at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder. In San Mateo, election officials and interested members of the public will draw letters out of a basket to determine the letter to be assigned to identify each measure. Measures will be listed on the ballot in alphabetical order by School Districts, County, Cities, and Special Districts. Election officials will conduct a second randomized alphabet drawing to determine the order of candidate’s names for state assembly on the ballot.
The Secretary of State’s Office will conduct a separate randomized alphabet drawing for all other contests.
Information regarding candidates and local measures is available on the Registration & Elections Division website, at www.shapethefuture.org/elections/2014/november/.
