Deadline to File Primary Arguments in Favor or Against the Brisbane and Menlo Park School District Measures is February 16

(Redwood City, CA) Chief Elections Officer Mark Church announced that the County Superintendent of Schools submitted a resolution to conduct two special mail ballot elections on May 3, 2016, asking voters in the Brisbane School District and Menlo Park City Elementary School District to determine whether or not they are in favor of renewing existing parcel taxes. The Menlo Park City Elementary School District is also submitting a new parcel tax measure to its voters.

Individuals interested in filing a primary argument in favor or against these measures have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16 to submit their arguments to the Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo. At that time, the 10-calendar-day public review period for primary arguments will open and remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday, February 26.

“During the 10-calendar-day public review period, the public is provided with an opportunity to read and challenge the language of the primary arguments, which are available for review at our office and on our website,“ said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder. During the 10-calendar-day public review period, registered voters, who are eligible to vote on the measures, may seek a judicial writ of mandate or injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. The request for a writ of mandate or injunction shall be filed no later than the end of the review period.

The ballot questions, text of the measures, impartial analysis prepared by the County Counsel’s Office, the arguments in favor and against and the rebuttal arguments in favor and against are published on the Registration & Elections website, www.shapethefuture.org, as soon as it is permissible by law.
