10-Day Public Review Periods for November 8 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election

Redwood City, CA – San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer Mark Church announced that the 10-day public review period for ballot measures and candidate filing documents for the November 8 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election will open August 12 at 5 p.m. when the filing period closes. To review the ballot measures, go to https://www.shapethefuture.org/elections/2011/nov2011/default.asp anytime or visit the Elections Office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo during regular business hours.
The purpose of the public review period is to give voters an opportunity to review and/or challenge the language of a proposed ballot measure or candidate statement before it is published in the Sample Ballot & Official Voter Information Pamphlet. During each 10-day public review period, any voter of the jurisdiction in which the election is being held, or the county elections official, may seek a judicial writ of mandate or injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. The request for writ of mandate or injunction shall be filed no later than the end of the review period.
This review period is one of four separate public review periods that occur in relation to the November 8 Election. Each period opens immediately after the filing deadline for each type of election document as follows:
Aug. 12 – Aug. 22
Candidate Statements & Ballot Measures due August 12 at 5 p.m.
Aug. 17 – Aug. 27
Candidate Statements from candidates who filed during the extended candidate filing period that closes on August 17 at 5 p.m. (extended filing occurs when an incumbent does not run for reelection).
Aug. 19 – Aug. 29
Primary Arguments for and against ballot measures.
Aug. 29 – Sept. 8
Rebuttal Arguments for and against Primary Arguments and the Impartial Analysis for each ballot measure (Impartial Analyses are prepared by County Counsel).
