(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced that the voting period for the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election will begin Monday, May 9.

“As a convenience to voters during the early voting period, voters from any precinct in the county may come to one of our two Voting Centers to cast a ballot or drop off a voted mail ballot,” Church stated. “The voter may choose to vote using the eSlate electronic voting machine or on a paper ballot,” he added.

The Voting Centers for the June Election are located at:

• Registration & Elections Division, 40 Tower Road, San Mateo
• 555 County Center, First Floor, Redwood City

Hours of operation for the two Voting Centers are as follows:

• Monday, May 9 through Monday, June 6 (weekdays): 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, May 28 and Saturday, June 4: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Tuesday, June 7 (Election Day): 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

May 9, 2016 also marks the first day that Official Ballots will be mailed to permanent Vote by Mail voters and voters who have requested a Vote by Mail ballot just for the primary election. Individuals interested in voting by mail can find an application postcard on the back cover of the Sample Ballot and Official Voter Information Pamphlet or online at www.shapethefuture.org under Access My Election Materials. Registered voters may request a ballot by mail until May 31.

Voters are encouraged to use the “Track and Confirm” tool on shapethefuture.org to verify when ballot materials were mailed and when the Registration & Elections Division received their voted ballot.

Voted mail ballots can only be accepted if they are postmarked on or before Election Day and received by Friday, June 10. Voters may bring voted ballots in person to any city or town hall in the county through the close of business on June 7. On Election Day, voted mail ballots may be dropped off until 8:00 p.m. at one of the two Voting Centers or any active polling place in the county.

June 7, 2016 Election will have Traditional Voting Opportunities

Unlike the November 2015 All-Mailed Ballot Election, the June 2016 Presidential Primary Election is a traditional election with neighborhood polling places for most county residents. Voters will be assigned a particular polling place that will be indicated on the back cover of the Sample Ballot and Official Voter Information Pamphlet and listed on our website www.shapethefuture.org under Access My Election Materials. Voters who live in precincts with less than 250 voters will be sent a Vote by Mail ballot.
