(Redwood City, CA) A misprint affecting voters in the Jefferson Union High School District has appeared on the ballot for the upcoming 2016 Presidential Primary Election.

The summary text of Measure E is correctly described on the ballot as a parcel tax measure. However, the voting choices directly beneath the text were inadvertently labeled as “BONDS YES” and “BONDS NO.” The voting choices should have been labeled as “YES” and “NO.”

The Registration & Elections Division is sending a letter to each voter in the district. The letter to voters states that a “Yes” vote means a vote for Measure E, and a “No” vote means a vote against Measure E. Votes will be counted, tallied, and reported based on this clarification. Information will also be posted on the Elections website www.shapethefuture.org.

“The June 7 Presidential Primary Election is one of the largest and most complex elections in recent history,” San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer Mark Church stated.

“This incident is unfortunate, but it is not totally unexpected given the unusual strain an election of this magnitude places on the resources of this office and on Registrars of Voters throughout the state,” noted Church.

“Every effort is being made to inform voters of the issue,” Church said. “Steps are also being taken to improve our ballot construction process so as to avoid this type of incident from occurring again,” he added.
