(Redwood City, CA) San Mateo County’s voter registration totals have soared this election season, passing 375,000 registered voters on National Voter Registration Day, and putting the county on track to approach the record-breaking totals seen during the 2008 Presidential General Election.

“This level of registration and interest in San Mateo County is unprecedented, but not unexpected,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for San Mateo County. “We’re very pleased that our voter outreach and registration programs have been able to facilitate this surge in engagement.”

Data from Google Trends reveals that California’s searches for information related to voter registration in the state has grown over 230% compared to 2012. Voter registration for the 2016 election has already surpassed the final total for the 2012 election, with one month to go. But the registration drive, which ends with the close of registration on October 24, isn’t done yet.
