(Redwood City, CA) San Mateo County’s voter registrations hit an all-time high today, reaching 394,396 registrations for the November 8, 2016 Presidential General Election. This record number is expected to climb higher in the coming days as more voter registrations are received from the Secretary of State’s Office. In addition, registration cards postmarked by October 24, the last day voters could register to vote, are currently being received in the mail by the Elections Division. The highest number of registrations previously recorded was 389,718 during the 2008 Presidential General Election.

“We are very pleased at the level of engagement we’ve seen,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for San Mateo County. “With our expanded options to register online at shapethefuture.org, by mail, and in person, registration is more accessible than ever before. And the people of San Mateo County have responded powerfully.”

The increased number of registered voters is also attributable to other factors such as the historic and heated presidential election, the high number of candidates running for federal, state and local offices and the numerous state propositions and local measures on the ballot.

“Registration is only the first step,” noted Church. “I would encourage all San Mateo County citizens to take advantage of our early voting and vote-by-mail options to make their voices heard.”

Early voting is taking place now at the County’s three voting centers, located at:

  • Registration & Elections Division
    40 Tower Road, San Mateo
  • Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder’s Office
555 County Center, First Floor, Redwood City
  • South San Francisco Public Library
840 West Orange Avenue, South San Francisco

Hours of operation for the three Voting Centers are as follows:

  • All weekdays through Monday, November 7: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 29 and Saturday, November 5: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 8 (Election Day): 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
