(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for the County of San Mateo, has officially certified the election results for the June 7, 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

“San Mateo County is pleased to announce the certification of the June 7, 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election,” announced Chief Elections Officer Mark Church.

“On Election Day, there were 433,539 registered voters in San Mateo County. Total voter turnout was 38.4%, more than 5% higher than the statewide voter turnout of 33%,” added Church.

Of the 166,405 ballots cast, 159,655, or nearly 96%, were Vote by Mail ballots, and 6,750 ballots, or approximately 4%, were cast at Vote Centers. In-person voting at Vote Centers dropped slightly from previous elections, continuing a trend of voters preferring to vote by mail from the ease and convenience of their homes.

“Voters appreciate and took advantage of the many voting options available to them under the California Voter’s Choice Act, including the use of Drop Boxes and Curbside Ballot Drop Off at Vote Centers,” noted Church.

“I would like to send a special “Thank you!” to the 170 students from 23 high schools who participated in our Student Democracy Program. Our Student Democracy Ambassadors provided essential services for voters at curbside collection drop-offs and line management at Vote Centers on Election Day,” said Church.

The results of the election are certified upon completion of the Canvass of the Vote during the 30 days following an election, which includes a One Percent Manual Tally of the votes cast to confirm the accuracy of the results.

The Official Election Results, published in the Statement of the Vote, are posted on the San Mateo County Registration & Elections website, www.smcacre.org.
