Alternate: David Tom, Elections Division Manager

(Redwood City, CA) On Thursday, March 13 at 11 a.m., the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division and the Secretary of States Office will conduct randomized alphabet drawings.  The randomized alphabet drawings determine the order of candidates names on the ballot and assign a letter to each measure that will appear on the ballot for the June 3, 2014 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

"The randomized alphabet drawing is an important and impartial step in the process of creating the official ballot.  I encourage the public to observe the process at our office at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo," said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder.  In San Mateo, election officials and interested members of the public will draw letters out of a basket to determine the letter to be assigned to identify each measure.  Measures will be listed on the ballot in alphabetical order by School Districts, County, Cities, and Special Districts.  Election officials will conduct a second randomized alphabet drawing to determine the order of candidates names for state assembly and state senate on the ballot.

The Secretary of States Office will conduct a separate randomized alphabet drawing for all other contests.

Information regarding candidates and local measures is available on the Registration & Elections Division website, at https://www.shapethefuture.org/elections/2014/june.

For more information about the drawing, please contact Filing Officer Jamie Kuryllo at 650.312.5202 or jkuryllo@smcare.org.
