(Redwood City, CA) San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, Mark Church, announced that October 20 is the deadline to register to vote in the November 4, 2014 Statewide General Election.  A mailed registration card that is postmarked on or before October 20, 2014 and received by the Registration & Elections Division by Election Day will satisfy the deadline.

“Registering to vote is one of our most fundamental rights as a citizen,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder.  “This statewide election includes contests for federal, state and local offices, as well as ballot measures.  Register to vote and make sure your voice is heard on Election Day,” he added.

To be eligible to register to vote, a person must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old by Election Day.  Additionally, eligible persons must not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction nor declared mentally incompetent by the court.

Further, registered voters must re-register whenever they move to a new address, change their name or change to a different political party affiliation. 

Eligible persons can register to vote by completing a voter registration card.  Voter registration cards are available at:

  • Registration & Elections Division, 40 Tower Rd, San Mateo, CA 94402
  • 555 County Center, Redwood City, CA 94063
  • Public Libraries
  • City Halls
  • U.S. Postal Service offices
  • Department of Motor Vehicles offices

As well, individuals may register online by visiting www.shapethefuture.org and clicking on "Register to Vote”.  By directly inputting their name and address, eligible voters can be sure their registration information is accurate. 

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division website provides the latest registration statistics, updated weekly at: https://www.shapethefuture.org/voterregistration/registrationstats.asp. The website also contains a link that allows eligible and registered voters to confirm their current registration status.  On the home page, click on “Check My Registration/Access My Election Materials/View My Voter Information Pamphlet.”
