Redwood City, CA –With the May 3, 2011 Consolidated Local Special Election just slightly more than two weeks away, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer Mark Church is reminding citizens that Monday, April 18 is the last day for voters to register or re-register to vote and be eligible to participate in this all-mail special election.

“The upcoming all-mail special election will decide who will serve on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and determine the fate of proposed parcel tax measures for the Ravenswood City, Jefferson Union High and the San Carlos School Districts.  The quality of life on the Peninsula is at stake and only those registered to vote will make these important local decisions. That’s why it is critical to register and vote,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer for San Mateo County.

To be eligible to register to vote in this election, a person must be:

  1. a U.S. citizen;
  2. at least 18 years old on Election Day;
  3. a resident of the San Mateo County;
  4. not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction; and
  5. not deemed by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and vote.

Voters are also required to re-register to vote if they have moved or changed their name.

Voter registration cards can be obtained from the Elections Office, as well as any public library, city hall, post office or DMV. Cards can also be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s Web site at http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/english.pdf. Voter registration cards require an original signature and must be submitted in person or through the mail. A registration card postmarked on or before April 18 will be accepted as meeting the registration deadline.
