(Redwood City, CA) Interested in running for public office? The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is offering two opportunities to learn about the procedures and deadlines for candidates running for office or considering a run for office in the upcoming June 5, 2018 Statewide Direct Primary Election. A separate seminar will address voter and election data available to candidates in their bids for office. All seminars will take place at the Registration & Elections Division, 40 Tower Road in San Mateo.
“During the candidate seminars, elections staff will provide interested parties with an overview of the candidate filing process and the specifics of the California Voter’s Choice Act election model to be used in June,” explained Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder. “We will also provide information about required financial reports and review NetFile, an online system for filing campaign finance disclosure reports, that will allow the public immediate access to campaign finance documents through our website at www.shapethefuture.org,” Church added.

- Requirements for campaign signs
“The seminars cover information that first-time candidates and current officeholders will find useful,” said Church. “The voter data seminar provides candidates and campaigns with information on the various registered voter data reports available, how to obtain them and how much they cost,” he added.

- Monday, January 29, 2018: 2 p.m.
Voter Data Seminars (choose one session):
- Tuesday, January 9, 2018: 11:30 a.m. or
- Monday, January 29, 2018: 3:30 p.m.

Attendees are asked to provide their name, which seminar date they plan to attend and the number of persons attending. All seminars are open to the public.
New Election Model for June 5, 2018
The June 5, 2018 Statewide Direct Primary Election will be the first election conducted under the California Voter’s Choice Act model. Traditional polling places will be replaced by Vote Centers, which will be open for voting for a greater period, and which will offer expanded voter services including voter registration, multilingual assistance, and disabled access voting options. Every registered voter will also receive a Vote-by-Mail Ballot, which can be returned in any mailbox or special ballot drop-off boxes located throughout the county, with no postage required.
