(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced the candidate filing period for the June 7, 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

For candidates seeking elected office, the filing period opens at 8 a.m. on February 14 and closes at 5 p.m. on March 11. For offices without eligible incumbents seeking re-election, the candidate filing period is open for an additional five (5) calendar days and closes at 5 p.m. on March 16.

New political district lines have been drawn based on the 2020 Census data. The new districts affect which candidates and contests will appear on the San Mateo County ballots, beginning with the June 7, 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election. The Registrar & Elections Division website, www.smcvote.org, features a tool for residents to find their districts.

The list of offices that will be up for election on the June 7, 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election ballot include:

Federal and State Offices:
U.S. Senator (Full Term): 6 years, commencing January 3, 2023

U.S. Senator (Partial/Unexpired Term): This special vacancy election is for the remainder of the unexpired term in the United States Senate, which ends on January 3, 2023.

U.S. Representative, Districts 15 and 16: 2-year terms commencing January 3, 2023

Governor: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Attorney General: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Secretary of State: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Controller: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Treasurer: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Insurance Commissioner: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

State Board of Equalization, 2nd District: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

State Assembly, Districts 19, 21 and 23: 2-year terms commencing December 5, 2022

Non-Partisan State Office:
State Superintendent of Public Instruction: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Non-Partisan County Offices:
Superior Court Judge: 6 seats available; 6-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Board of Supervisors: 2nd District and 3rd District; 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Controller: 4-year term commencing January 2, 2023

Voting Period Begins May 9 and Ends on June 7

San Mateo County’s registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail in May. Three of the 45 Vote Centers for the June election open on May 9 for in-person voting.
