(Redwood City, CA) Today, Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for the County of San Mateo, officially certified the election results for the June 23, 2020 County Service Area No. 1 Special Mail Ballot Election.

Only one measure appeared on the ballot for the special election, a parcel tax measure for extended police and fire protection services that passed with the required 2/3s majority needed, with 1,053 (80.14%) votes in favor. Of the 2,979 eligible voters, 1,316 (44.18%) voted in the election. Nearly all the ballots cast in this election were Vote by Mail ballots 1,311 (99.62%).

Election certification occurs after the canvassing of an election, including a manual post-election audit of the ballots cast in the election to confirm the accuracy of the results. The one percent manual tally and a pilot risk-limiting audit were performed on Tuesday, July 7, and were open for public attendance.
