(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced the opening of the candidate filing period for the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election.
For candidates seeking elected office, the filing period will open at 8 a.m. on February 16 and will close at 5 p.m. on March 11. For offices without an eligible incumbent seeking re-election, the candidate filing period will be extended another five (5) calendar days and will close at 5 p.m. on March 16.
“San Mateo County’s success depends upon responsible leaders committing themselves to public service,” said Church. “The work is both extremely challenging and very rewarding.”
The jurisdictions with nomination contests on the June 7, 2016 ballot include the President/Vice President, Senate, Congressional Representatives, State Senate and State Assembly. Other offices to fill include eight County Superior Court Judges, three County Supervisor districts and numerous County Central Committee seats for four political parties.
“I encourage candidates who are interested in pursuing offices to call the Candidate Filing Officer, Michael Lui, at 650.312.5238, to make an appointment to review the steps in the process, the forms and the requirements for a successful filing,“ Church stated. “I recommend that candidates file their nomination papers as early as possible to allow time for incorrect or incomplete forms to be corrected. There is no leeway in the filing deadline.“

State Assembly, 19th District: One 2-year term

June 2016 Election will have Traditional Voting Opportunities
Unlike the November 2015 All-Mailed Ballot Election, the June 2016 Presidential Primary Election is a traditional election with neighborhood polling places for most county residents. Voters will be assigned a specific polling place that will be indicated on the back cover of the Sample Ballot and Official Voter Information Pamphlet and listed on our website www.shapethefuture.org under Access My Election Materials, starting April 28. Voters who live in precincts with less than 250 voters will be sent a Vote by Mail ballot.
Only voters who are permanently signed up to vote by mail or who request a ballot for the June 7, 2016 election will be mailed a ballot on May 9. Voters may request a ballot online at Access My Election Materials, starting April 28, or by completing the request form included in the county Sample Ballot Pamphlet. Voters can also choose to vote by mail permanently by completing the online application form.
