(Redwood City, CA) Those interested in pursuing a seat on the Coastside Fire Protection Board of Directors have until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24th to file their nomination papers with the San Mateo County Elections Office at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo. As this is a recall election, there will be no extension of the filing deadline.
Chief Elections Officer Mark Church reminds interested candidates that: “This election is being conducted to determine if Michael Alifano, A. Douglas Mackintosh, and/or Gary Riddell, members of the Coastside Fire Protection District Board of Directors, shall be recalled from office. Accordingly, if a majority of the recall vote is affirmative as to any of the three offices, the election shall also determine the successor(s) for the recalled seat(s) on the Board of Directors.” He added, “Interested candidates must decide which of the three members’ seats they wish to hold.”
The close of candidate filing period also marks the opening of the 10-day public review period when any member of the public has the opportunity to review candidate filing documents and statements. Any registered voter of the election jurisdiction, or the elections official, may seek a writ of mandate or injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. The public review period will run from January 24 to February 3, 2013.
