(Redwood City, CA) Individuals interested in running for office in San Mateo County in the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election have until the close of business on Friday, March 11, 2016 to file candidacy papers. Candidates have until 5 p.m. to complete their candidate filing with the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo. The same deadline also applies to local jurisdictions that intend to place a measure on the June ballot.
Candidates are provided a 26-day window in which to file all necessary paperwork under the law. The complete Roster of Candidates is posted online and updated every evening. To view the roster, go to Current Election at www.shapethefuture.org.
If an eligible incumbent for an office does not qualify as a candidate by the close of business on March 11, the candidate filing period for that particular office will be extended another five (5) calendar days and will end at the close of business on Wednesday, March 16. The eligible incumbent will not be permitted to file during the extended candidate filing period.

June 2016 Election will have Traditional Voting Opportunities
Unlike the November 2015 All-Mailed Ballot Election, the June 2016 Presidential Primary Election is a traditional election with neighborhood polling places for most county residents. Voters will be assigned a specific polling place that will be indicated on the back cover of the Sample Ballot and Official Voter Information Pamphlet. It will also be listed on our website www.shapethefuture.org under Access My Election Materials, starting April 28. Voters who live in precincts with less than 250 voters will be sent a Vote by Mail ballot.
Only voters who are permanently signed up to vote by mail or who request a ballot for the June 7, 2016 election will be mailed a ballot on May 9 or later. Voters may request a ballot on Access My Election Materials, starting April 28, or by completing the request form included in the county Sample Ballot Pamphlet. Voters can also choose to vote by mail permanently by completing the online application form.
