(Redwood City, CA) Those interested in running for office in the November 4, 2014 Statewide General Election have until the close of business on Friday, August 8, 2014 to file all necessary paperwork. City candidates should check the hours of their city clerk’s office; all other candidates have until 5:00 p.m. to complete their candidate filing with the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo. The same deadline applies to local jurisdictions that intend to place a measure on the November ballot.
The law provides candidates with a 26-day window in which to file necessary paperwork. To date, numerous candidates have filed to run for local offices in the 8 cities, 11 school districts, and 6 special districts holding a November election in San Mateo County. If an eligible incumbent for an office does not qualify as a candidate by the close of business on August 8, the candidate filing period will be extended another five (5) calendar days and will end at the close of business on August 13. The eligible incumbent will not be able to file during the extended candidate filing period.
