Registration & Elections Division Offers Seminars for Interested Candidates and Campaigns

(Redwood City, CA) The Registration & Elections Division of the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder’s Office will hold two candidate seminars and one voter data seminar for persons running for office or considering a run for office in the upcoming November 5, 2013 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election.  All seminars will be held at the Elections Division, 40 Tower Road, San Mateo and are open to the public.

Candidate Seminars

“Traditionally, we offer a candidate seminar to help candidates or interested parties to obtain information on the requirements to run for local office.  Once the mechanics of running for office are understood, the filing process is no longer complicated,” explained Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder.  Topics to be covered will include the:  

  • Campaign finance reports
  • Filing process
  • Calendar of applicable deadlines
  • Required forms
  • Ballot statements
  • Voter registration guidelines
  • Requirements for campaign signs
  • Various campaign resources
  • Rules and regulations for campaign activities

Voter Data Seminar

This seminar explains the law and procedures that enable candidates and other qualified applicants to obtain voter registration data and the rules governing how it may be used.

Schedule:

Candidate Seminar - complete in one session, offered on two dates

  • Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. 
  • Thursday, July 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.

Voter Seminar - offered one time only

  • Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.

Current officeholders as well as first-time candidates can benefit from the information provided at the seminars. “At the candidate seminar, elections staff will review the pertinent legal details and procedures that apply to running for local office,” said Mark Church. “At the voter data seminar, candidates and campaign staff will learn about obtaining voter data and its permissible uses,” he added.
