(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder of San Mateo County, announced today that marriage licenses and wedding ceremonies are now authorized via videoconference in San Mateo County.

“It took a lot of work by the County Clerk Division and IT staff to overcome numerous technological challenges to provide this service online,” stated Church. “It was well worth the effort given the need and the public’s positive response to online wedding services during the COVID-19 Shelter-in-Place Orders,” added Church.

The issuance of marriage licenses and wedding ceremonies via videoconference was authorized as an emergency measure under the Governor’s Executive Order N-58-20 effective April 30, 2020. The provisions of the Executive Order expire 60 days after issuance, unless further extended by the Governor.
