(Redwood City, CA) Chief Elections Officer Mark Church today released San Mateo County’s California Voter’s Choice Act Draft Election Administration Plan (EAP). The Draft EAP outlines the steps the County will follow in implementing the provisions of the California Voter’s Choice Act for the June 5, 2018 Statewide Direct Primary Election.
“The California Voter’s Choice Act is landmark legislation which fundamentally transforms how elections will be conducted in the State of California. San Mateo County is proud to be one of 14 counties authorized by the State to conduct elections under the new law,” stated Church.
The California Voter’s Choice Act changes the traditional polling place election model to an All-Mailed Ballot/Vote Center model with ballot drop-off locations. “The primary goal of this new legislation is to expand accessibility and voting opportunities for all voters, particularly those with disabilities, visual impairments and language minorities. Our Draft Election Administration Plan addresses in specific detail how we intend to accomplish this noble goal and we welcome the public’s input on this process,” added Church.
The California Voter’s Choice Act requires all counties conducting elections under the Act to develop a Draft EAP and a detailed Voter Education and Outreach Plan.
A Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the County Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 400 County Center, Redwood City for the public to comment on the County’s Draft EAP and the Voter Education and Outreach Plan. The Act provides for a 14-day comment period after the Public Hearing, upon which the Final-EAP may be adopted.
A Vote Center model with equipment and voting stations will be available for the public to view and walk through at the meeting.

The Draft EAP may also be reviewed in person at the Registration & Elections Division Office located at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo. The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. Individuals needing special assistance or accommodations are invited to visit or contact the Registration & Elections Division. Advanced notification of visits is recommended to allow the Division to make reasonable accommodations upon request.
